| A SHIP NAMED "FRIEND" by the First Act | ||
Answer: In all of history and, more specifically, the history of ship-naming, there has never been a ship named “Friend" (fact not researched). Instead ships are often named after people like “Edmund Fitzgerald” or "Peter Iredale." Worse, yet, some ships are named after what appear to be complete nonsensical words and phrases like “Willy Nilly,” “Double Trouble,” or “Tapped Out.” This song is what the First Act brings to the dock.
Look starboard; there’s a friend. Look port; there’s a friend. Drop the anchor; there’s a friend. Follow the light home; there’s a friend. Be watchful of the tide; there’s a “Friend” on your side. So hold your ear to this seashell. As Bert Fisher said to his son Max, “You’re like one of those clipper ship captains: you’re married to the sea,” so we're replying, “Yes, but we’ve been out to sea for a long time...”
